What I've learned
I've always been aware that my sin causes the Lord pain. It's one of those things that I think everyone knows, christians and non-christians alike, but what it comes down to is how we handle this knowledge.
On day two of the study, Beth Moore gave us some Bible reading to do. One of the passages was Genesis 6:1-9. Obviously these verses are ones that I have read over and over again but this time when I read them, I gained new insight.
6 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
In Genesis 1:31 " God said all that He had made, and it was very good." For God to have thought that His creation was very good, is like us saying something is "freaking awesome!!". And for Him to be so distraught over the sin on earth that he would "destroy man" just goes to show how serious our sin really is.
Our sin greatly affects the Lord
More often than not, I have heard time and time again from different people that they choose to keep sinning because they know that there sins will be forgiven. Yes, our God is a gracious one, but no, that does not mean we should take advantage of that!!
"What shall we say then? Should we go on sinning so that Grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin, how can we live in it any longer? " Romans 6:1-2
Challenge
I would like to challenge each of you to think about how God is affected by your sin. I'm not saying to dwell on it until you feel like you cannot forgive yourself... I would just encourage you to really think about this and hopefully it will give you a new perspective.
I would also like to challenge you to take up a study or even just read the Bible with fellow Christians and then come together to discuss how you both interpreted the scripture.
Question
What are some lessons that God has been teaching you lately?
